Russian leader Vladimir Putin is building up his military capability in the secretive European enclave of Kaliningrad, constructing a new 'missile base' and practising chilling war games, MailOnline can reveal.
The Baltic Sea outpost, which borders Nato and EU countries Poland and Lithuania, is bristling with Russian missiles and warships - and experts claim it could even become the epicentre of World War Three.
Economically backward and cut off from Russia, the 6,000-square-mile stretch of land is now easily the most militarised territory anywhere in Europe. It is the closest Russian territory to London and other big Western cities and provides a crucial staging post for Putin in Europe.
