Politico: Russia threatens to retaliate after talks fail to resolve US property dispute
Dispute flares over properties seized by US from Russia in December over election interference.
Moscow’s foreign ministry warned Tuesday it had the “right to take retaliatory measures” after talks failed to resolve a diplomatic row with the U.S.
The squabble centers on two Russian diplomatic compounds, which were seized by the United States in December under former President Barack Obama after American intelligence agencies concluded Moscow interfered in the U.S. presidential election. Russia wants the U.S. to hand over control of the compounds.
Talks held Monday between Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov and U.S. counterpart Thomas Shannon failed to settle the dispute.
