Apple TV update brings performance fixes and adds bevy of new features
Apple TV users have received an update to their set-top box with iOS 5.1 build 10A406e, which includes a number of enhancements and new features.
According to iDownloadBlog, which first reported the update, the revamped software provides more than the usual stability and performance fixes.
The update will allow users to save multiple iTunes accounts – and switch between them – and includes support for Shared Photo Streams and AirPlay broadcasting from Apple TV to other devices. Also, similar to the mobile iOS platform, Apple TV lets users reorder icons by holding the Select button on the remote, though the feature works only on the second page of apps.
The site provided Apple's release notes, which include details about shared photos streams – accept invitations, browse and comment, and receive notifications of new content; AirPlay – send audio from Apple TV to enabled speakers and subtitles – SDH support, as well as improvements to viewing and selecting subtitles.
Like most Apple software, the device should prompt users with a pop-up when the update is available, but owners can also manually check the software update option in the general settings category, or just download the firmware.
