Google+ has received a boost with news that it now has 400 million users, around a year after the social network was introduced.
Indeed,
according to the company's senior vice-president of engineering, Vic
Gundotra, around one in four actively use the platform with engagement
continuing to increase. The technology giant has previously been criticised for a lack of uptake after looking to take on Facebook and Twitter with Google+, but it remains confident of success in the future.
"This week we also hit an important milestone - over 400,000,000 people have upgraded to Google+. It was only a year ago that we opened public sign-up, and we couldn't have imagined that so many people would join in just 12 months," Mr Gundotra explained on his own Google+ page.
It comes after the firm also announced the acquisition of photo-editing app Snapseed, seen by many as a response to Facebook's purchase of Instagram.
