The latest FIFA instalment was always going to chart pretty highly, such is the hype surrounding the game each year. But this time around it has outdone itself.
The title has become just the fourth game in UK chart history to sell more than a million copies in its first week, joining an illustrious group of titles.
The only games that have managed this impressive feat are, unsurprisingly, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Black Ops and Modern Warfare 3.
FIFA 13 smashes records
Notching up one million sales in a matter of days is certainly impressive, but given the current state of the market it is even more of an achievement. The title’s sales blitz anything else seen this year, and destroy FIFA 12′s performance by 27% in unit sales and 31% in value.
Not only that, but the game made up 71% of the UK’s total game sales and 80% of the total revenue for the week.
FIFA 13 vs PES 2013
The debate over whether FIFA or PES is the better game is one that will never be resolved, but one thing’s for sure – FIFA 13 is certainly winning the sales war.PES 2013 could only manage third place in the UK games chart upon its release last week, and didn’t get anywhere near FIFA 13′s sales tally.
It’s now been bumped down to fifth in the multiformat game chart, with surely no hope of catching FIFA 13′s impressive haul.
Other new entries to the game chart included World of Warcraft expansion Mist of Pandaria, which charted at number four in both charts.
A surprise hit was music game Rocksmith, a title that employs a real guitar as the controller, which charted at number seven.
