CNN: NFL chief, NBA stars slam Trump
Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump came under harsh criticism Saturday from the NFL and some of the NBA's top players after he blasted prominent athletes for kneeling during the national anthem and refusing to come to the White House, putting himself in the center of a controversy with significant racial and cultural undertones.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell slammed Trump in a statement Saturday morning, calling the President "divisive" for remarks he made at a rally in Alabama Friday night, while one of the most famous athletes in the world, LeBron James, called Trump a "bum" for his Saturday morning tweet uninviting Golden State Warriors' Stephen Curry from visiting the White House.
The Golden State Warriors issued a statement later Saturday accepting Trump's dis-invitation.

WNU Editor: Some of the players, the journalists who cover sports, and some of the owners themselves .... for the past two years they have been mixing and/or permitting politics to enter the sport that they play/cover/or own. Disrespecting the national anthem and the flag being the two protests that have received the most attention. Not surprising, a blow-back that has been growing against these protests exploded when President Trump got involved. To say that this is going to hurt professional sport is an understatement. The last thing that many people want to see at a game is politics .... but politics is what is happening. And while many are applauding the players/owners/sport journalists/etc. for the stand that they are taking today .... many are not. In the next few days everyone (i.e. players, journalists. league executives, player unions, and some owners) ... they are all going to pile on President Trump. But President Trump is only voicing what many sports fans have been feeling for the past two years, and they will see these attacks on President Trump as a personal attack on them. LeBron James says that President Trump is using sports to divide Americans .... LeBron James airs frustrations with Trump's comments: He's using sports to divide us (CBS Sports), but someone should tell LeBron James that these protests first started and grew when President Obama was in office .... and it was also then that the division and blow-back against these player protests first started. My prediction .... there are many other sports that one can watch and enjoy .... the NBA and the NFL do not have a monopoly on this type of entertainment ... which is a lesson that these extremely well paid players/sport journalists/and owners are going to find out in the weeks/months to come.
